Abstract

Religion plays significant role in shaping human relationships which in turns helps in strengthening social bodings and setting up an environment of peaceful coexistence. There is no doubt that each religion of the world preaches peace and love and if interpreted in their true spirits would always help in resolving various social conflicts in the world. When we analyze the socio religious movements of India, two of them; the Sufi and the Bhakti movements, have played quite a significant role in setting up socio-religious harmony in our country. This does not mean that other movements were of any less importance, because each such movement has played its role in one way or the other. This paper is an attempt at looking at the role of Sufi- Bhakti traditions in creating social harmony in India and also to find out their commonalities
