ABSTRACT

Purpose: The aim is to produce a practical model to assist business managers to formulate a successful strategy to steer business out of this pandemic.  

Methodology: This work uses operational research principles to produce a practical model as an important part of any business strategy.

Findings: Discussions in journals are centered on impact of the pandemic on the hospitality and travel sectors. There is little discussion on building a practical model to assist businesses to formulate a successful strategy to counteract detrimental effects of the pandemic.

Originality/value: The model created in this work helps businesses to know the true economic consequences of the pandemic and can help both individual enterprises be better prepared to tackle the aftermath of such a pandemic.
