ABSTRACT
Employee motivation and performance are critical determinants of organizational effectiveness and long-term success. This study examines the impact of financial and non-financial incentives on employee motivation and performance. The study aims to analyse the influence of financial incentives on employee motivation, examine the effect of non-financial incentives, assess the relationship between incentives and employee performance, and compare the effectiveness of financial and non-financial incentives. A quantitative research approach was adopted using a descriptive, correlational and analytical research design. Primary data were collected from 205 employees through a structured questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale, while secondary data were obtained from research journals, published studies, and organizational sources. The collected data were analysed using statistical techniques including correlation and regression analysis. The findings indicate that both financial and non-financial incentives positively contribute to employee motivation and performance. Financial incentives such as salary increases, bonuses and monetary rewards are particularly effective in providing short-term motivation, whereas non-financial incentives such as recognition, promotion opportunities, training and development, job security and a positive work environment have a stronger influence on long-term motivation and productivity. The statistical analysis further indicates a significant relationship between incentives, employee motivation and performance. The study concludes that organizations can achieve better employee motivation and performance by adopting a balanced incentive system that integrates both financial and non-financial rewards. Regular evaluation, employee feedback, improved communication of incentive policies and enhanced career development opportunities can further strengthen the effectiveness of incentive programmes.
