Abstract

Major recruitment in Indian public sector general insurance organizations took place from 1970s to 1980s. There was no new recruitment in these companies from 1995 till 2009. In 2009, these companies started recruiting in large numbers. The recruits were selected in the entry-level officer cadre.

Since currently there is no lateral entry into these public sector companies, the new recruits are expected to occupy responsible positions in future. In fact the entire growth of Public Sector will hinge on the ability of these companies to retain new officers and inspire their commitment towards the organization.

In this context, it is important to explore the effect of Desired and Experienced Work Values, and Organization Climate on Job Satisfaction and Organization Commitment, as these variables have an impact on talent retention and organizational performance. We used using Structural Equation Modeling to understand interaction between study variables.

For this purpose, data was collected from 112 new recruits of a single Public Sector General Insurance Organization. These recruits have currently completed one and a half years of service with the organization. Relevant Standardized scales were used for data collection.

Key words: Job Satisfaction,  Organization Commitment, General Insurance
