PREVALENCE OF BALANCE IMPAIRMENT AND FEAR OF FALLAMONG DIABETIC PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY SUBJECTS INRURALAREASOFCOIMBATORE–ASURVEYSTUDY

ABSTRACT

Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is a condition linked to diabetes mellitus that damages nerves. Hyperglycemia contributes significantly to the path physiology of diabetic neuropathy. People with diabetes smell it us can over time develop nerve damage throughout the body. Peripheral neuropathy is most prevalent in people those aged above45 have the highest quantity of individuals having diabetes. Diagnosing DPN early can substantially lower the balance impairment and fear of fall.

Objectives: The study's primary objective was to ascertain the prevalence of balance impairment and fall anxiety. Among diabetic peripheral neuropathy subjects in rural areas of Coimbatore.

Subjects and Methods: This study design was survey study. The calculated sample size of both male and female are 200. The survey was conducted in Coimbatore's rural areas. The research was done for a period of six months. Based on inclusion Males and females between the ages of 45 and 65 who are open to taking part in the research are chosen based on certain criteria. Following the request for demographic data from each participant, the BBS was used to evaluate balance impairment, and the BBS was used to evaluate fear of falling. FES-I.

Result: Eighty-two (41%), and 118 (59%), of the 200 diabetic neuropathy patients were female. From total individual 34(17%) subjects were low fall risk, 158(79%) subjects were medium fall risk, 8(4%) subjects were severe in balance impairment using BBS.37 (18.5%) subjects were low, 154 (77%) subjects were moderate, and 9 (4.5%) subjects were severe in fear of fall using FES-I

Conclusion: This study concluded that prevalence of balance impairment and fear of fall among DPN subjects is high and result showed that Compared to static equilibrium, dynamic balance is more impacted and result showed that Greater numbers of subjects have a moderate risk of developing type 2 diabetes and are afraid about fall among DPN subjects in rural areas of Coimbatore.
