Corporate Social Responsibility has evolved from conventional philanthropy to sustainable and impactful initiatives that benefit society. Some of these initiatives include corporate libraries as CSR activities, mainly because they help advance education, give people access to knowledge, and develop a community. Recognizing their role in advancing society, corporate firms have invested in libraries, first in promoting literacy, supporting underprivileged communities, and bridging the gap of information. These libraries are knowledge hubs that provide books, digital resources, and learning opportunities to students, professionals, and lifelong learners, hence contributing to intellectual empowerment and sustainable development. Implementing libraries as a CSR initiative benefits not only the communities served but also enhances the corporate image and reputation of firms. By investing in educational infrastructure, companies align their CSR strategies with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in ensuring quality education (SDG 4) and reducing inequalities (SDG 10). Moreover, such initiatives promote employee engagement, as many corporate firms encourage their staff to volunteer in library management, reading programs, and mentorship activities. This strengthens corporate-community relations while fostering a culture of social responsibility within the organization.Despite the many benefits, long-term sustainability is challenged by the need for sustained funding, access, and integration of digital means. Companies have to engage government bodies, NGOs, and local communities in management and impact assessments for these libraries. The scope of such libraries and mobile reading programs can further be expanded with technology-based digital libraries. Strategic embedding of library development in a CSR framework by corporate firms can help them contribute to societal progress while cementing their brand as responsible entities in society.
